Well, it seems that many people are dealing with colds and flus and I suppose there is no reason we should be any different. Kaitlynn is sick. She missed school on Monday, yesterday and now today. I am going to pick up homework for her today. Poor kid - she so badly wants to be at school. She seems to be picking up though and I am thankful for that.
I'm sure many of you have heard about the Ice Jam here. On Sunday we were at my Mom and Dad's for lunch after church and we could watch the ice from their livingroom window! It was so still and then all of a sudden there was a surge and the river was moving. It moved for about 20 minutes and then stopped again. It is now 27 km long and has grown 13km since Sunday. Of course, the cold snap we are in contributed to the growth. My parents' neighbours have had water in their basements due to ground seepage! Scary! Gabion dykes and more than 4000 sandbags have been placed behind their houses. Just before Christmas our school was at risk so about 150 people showed up and bagged 2000 sandbags and placed around the school. The water made it up to our student parking lot and into the crawl space of the oldest part of the school. We only had one day of no school but we continue to be on evacuation alert during the local state of emergency! The sandbags are still up and it makes the school look like a warzone (except, of course, when they are covered in snow). I worry about spring thaw and what that could mean for the low-lying areas around the Nechako. Check out: http://www.opinion250.com/blog/view/8256/1/the+icejam%3a+in+pictures? for great pictures.
